  • Recycle wood/yard waste and metal materials in the wood and metal recovery areas of the landfill department

Baldwin County offers eleven well-located convenience centers in Milledgeville:

WHAT CAN YOU BRING TO A CONVENIENCE CENTER ?

  • Convenience Centers accept:
    • Household garbage
    • White goods (stoves, refrigerators, metal)
    • Brown goods (shingles, couches, mattresses, furniture, etc.)
    • Yard waste (leaves, limbs, grass cuttings)
    • Newspapers
    • Cardboards
    • Aluminum cans
    • Metal cans
    • Plastics
    • Glass
  • Convenience Centers do NOT accept:
    • Hazardous waste including highly volatile, radioactive waste, and industrial, commercial, institutional, or residential waste which contains hazardous solids, semisolids, liquids, explosives, pathological waste, pesticides, toxic, highly flammable or corrosive substances, septic tank sludge, and biomedical waste. Examples: batteries, paint, etc.
    • Loads of mixed construction and demolition waste. All loads must be separated in order for waste containing wood or metal materials to be placed in the appropriate recycling locations.
    • Non-compactable waste. Examples: tires, concrete, brick, and asphalt.

 

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE WASTE THAT IS RECYCLED?

  • Metal materials are collected by private contractors.
  • Wood is chipped and sold as mulch.
  • All other recycled materials are sold to private vendors.
